Can I hire a screening room at a Curzon venue?
All Curzon Cinema venues are available for private hire. Curzon
Cinemas consists of six London venues, with a choice of 12 screens:
Curzon Soho, Curzon Mayfair, The Renoir, Chelsea Cinema, Richmond
Filmhouse and hmvcurzon Wimbledon. In addition to screen hire, we also hire our bar and
mezzanine spaces for pre/post-screening functions. If our hospitality
spaces are unsuitable for the reception you have in mind then we will
happily recommend other local venues. As a general guide, you can hire
one or more of these slots: Morning: between 8am and 12noon, Afternoon:
12-2pm, 2-4pm or 4-6pm, Evening: 6:30-9pm or 9:30pm-close. The hire fee
includes projection staff, technical advice and the help of an event
coordinator.
Do you hire at the weekend?
Curzon Cinemas do not offer their screens for private hire on a Fri,
Sat or Sun after midday, but can accommodate short and feature length
screenings before this time. We may, on occasion accommodate premieres
and other high profile hires on a Sunday evening and if you are planning
a film festival, and significant notice is given, we will potentially
accommodate weekend hires.
Do you offer discounts?
Discounted hire may be offered to registered charities or
educational institutions, but is solely at the discretion of Curzon
Cinemas Ltd.
I work for a production company; can I hold a cast and crew
screening at a Curzon venue?
Yes, we frequently host cast and crew screenings for both broadcast
and film companies. These take place on a weekend morning when we offer
our screens at an extremely reasonable hourly rate. It is necessary for
these screenings to finish by 12noon so that we are able to begin our
regular public programming for the day. We do of course also accommodate
cast and crew screenings on weekday evenings but these will be subject
to larger hire fees.
I’m a short film maker can I show my film at a Curzon venue?
Curzon Cinemas can accommodate short filmmakers’ private screenings
in any of the regular hire slots, or at weekends in the mornings before
noon when we charge per hour. You may decide to team up with other short
filmmakers to show a programme of shorts and thereby split the costs.
It’s worth thinking about hiring our bar too for drinks and networking.
I am planning a film festival, would you consider taking on a
new festival?
We are always interested in hearing about ideas for new film
festivals and are happy to discuss hosting these on a private hire
basis. We already work with numerous organisations and film festivals,
and our first concern when considering working in partnership on a
festival is whether the film festival will offer something new and
seminal to the UK film events calendar. If we were to take on a new
festival as a private hire this would necessarily require a four-wall
hire. This means that the organizer will pay a flat-hire fee for the
screen time and then keep all box office returns.
Can you accommodate all day conferencing?
Plans for full day conferences and seminars need to be booked well
in advance. We can accommodate branding within the cinema and PowerPoint
presentations, we can also set up market places and network spaces in
our hospitality areas and in addition to this can provide breakfast
catering, excellent buffet lunches and afternoon teas. If you require
full sit down lunches we can put you in contact with local
organizations, restaurants and members clubs, all located less than
three minutes walk from any of our venues, who will be able to
accommodate you.
What formats can you screen from?
Our projectionists are highly trained and are experienced in
screening from 35mm, 16mm, Beta, mini DV, DV Cam, DVD,
High Definition and from our digital servers. We also have a Chief
Engineer who will be able to assist with any additional technical
requirements that may need to be resolved in order for your event to run
smoothly. If you wanted to screen from HD you would need to provide the
deck and, ideally, a technical engineer to help set it up with our
projection team. We recommend that you also provide a DVD
or alternative format back up copy of your film(s).
Do you have digital projection?
Curzon Cinemas is part of the Digital Screen Network (DSN) a key
part of the UK Film Council’s strategy for broadening the range of films
available to audiences throughout the UK and improving access to
specialised (or non-mainstream) film. In terms of projection this means
that Curzon Soho screens 1 and 3, Curzon Mayfair screen 1, The Renoir
and Chelsea Cinema are all equipped with 2K Christie digital projectors
and are committed to supporting and developing the growth of digital
cinema. Digital projectors enable Curzon Cinema to project moving images
and alternative content to an extremely high quality both in standard
format and in HD.
Are there alternative possibilities for connectivity to your
digital projectors?
Powerpoint and conferencing aside, we have hosted console and game
launches in the past for major games companies. We have hosted events
that have allowed guests to play and interact with new consoles on our
cinema screens and have also enabled companies to demonstrate new
hardware and software to large audiences. We are also able to stream
live broadcasts into all of our screens equipped with digital
projectors. This is done through a high speed internet connection and
has in the past enabled us to transmit live outside broadcasts to seated
guests in our auditoria. We are also able to do live demonstrations on
stage with a camera feed to the projector.
