The German Souls - Life After Colonia Dignidad [Advised 16]
Directors: Matthias Zuber, Martin Farkas. Germany 2009
In 1961 500 German sect members immigrated to Chile and for over 40 years they lived cut off from the rest of the world. Drugs were administered as a form of sedation, child molestation was a regular occurrence, and severe punishment in the form of beatings and torture was commonplace: sect leader, Schaefer, insisted that discipline was spiritually enriching. The colony also became an operational base of the Pinochet secret service: Dirección Nacional de Inteligencia. The personal stories told are harrowing tales of longing, romantic notions, displacement and abject despair, about blame, taking responsibility and victimization.
We are delighted that directors Martin Farkas and Matthias Zuber will be present at the screening on Saturday 28th November.
