The Limits of Control is perhaps the most elliptical and engrossing film yet from the original US auteur, Jim Jarmusch. Set in the striking and varied landscapes of contemporary Spain and shot by legendary cinematographer Christopher Doyle, the film concerns a mysterious loner (De Bankolé in his fourth collaboration with the director), whose activities remain meticulously outside the law. He is in the process of completing a job, yet trusts no one, and his objectives are not initially divulged. Executed with Jarmusch’s trademark minimalism, it also features a characteristically distinctive score.
