Executive-produced by Alfonso Cuarón, AÑO UÑA (The Year of the Nail) marks an auspicious and remarkably assured debut for Alfonso’s son, Jonás. A beautiful meditation on the passage of time and the impermanence of things, AÑO UÑA depicts an impossible romance between Molly (Harper), a 21-year-old American, and a Mexican (Cataño, DUCK SEASON) in the throes of puberty. The film has been compared to Chris Marker’s LA JETÉE, and yet it possesses a daring and originality all of its own. It features brilliant sound design from Martín Hernández (AMORES PERROS, SILENT LIGHT) and is a further signifier of the continued brilliance of Mexican cinema.
Director of Ano Una, Jonás Cuarón will be in Q&A after the 6.50pm screening on Saturday 29 November. He will be joined by his father Alfonso, director of international hits such as Y Tu Mama Tambien and Children of Men.
