The Summer Season brings together an exciting and vibrant mix of some of the most popular operas and ballets of the past three years. The first cinematic performances of ballet include The Royal Ballet’s award-winning production of Frederick Ashton’s Sylvia with Darcey Bussell playing the title role in her final performance. Also from The Royal Ballet, we have the beautiful Alina Cojocaru in The Sleeping Beauty and the enigmatic Carlos Acosta in Romeo and Juliet.

From the San Francisco Opera, we have two productions that were both highlights of its 2006-7 season: Don Giovanni and Madama Butterfly. From The Royal Opera, Erwin Schrott heads a stellar cast in David McVicar’s illuminating Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), and Anna Catarina Antonacci brings the Spanish heat and gypsy passion to the title role of Carmen.

Watching opera and ballet in the cinema is like having not just the best seat in the house, but all the best seats in the house!
