DocDays: Pirates of Salé (advised 15)

Pirates of Salé has screened in more than 20 countries from Abu Dhabi to Edinburgh, winning awards in Rome, Lisbon and Tetouan. This is its first screening in London.

On Morocco’s old pirate coast, in the city of Salé, a new generation of pirates are setting sail in Morocco’s first professional circus. Cirque Shems’y sits on the edge of the poorest slums, and hundreds of teenagers come to audition here each year, looking for a different future.

Pirates of Salé is a character-based observational film which follows a tough journey of transformation as four young Moroccans learn to live independently, express themselves, challenge convention, and embrace a totally alien concept: artistic freedom.

This is a film about being young in a place with few opportunities and daring to dream.

Docdays screening: The film will be followed by a panel discussion.

Wednesday 17 May 6.30pm, Curzon Soho.

Tickets £15.00 / £12.50 for Curzon Members.
