If you're looking for an event with bite this Halloween then join Curzon and Edible Cinema for a unnerving evening at the cinema as we bring back a timeless classic. We will be screening The Silence of the Lambs and serving up themed food and drink courtesy of Edible Cinema, so whether you're already a fan of the film or a newbie then get ready for an immersive and spooky event. Tickets are likely to sell fast.
FBI agent Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) turns to the imprisoned, dangerous and highly intelligent psychiatrist Dr Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) for unconventional assistance in hunting down a psychopathic serial killer. Triggering a deadly psychological game of cat-and-mouse, where Lecter always seems to have the upper hand, the tension levels ratchet up as their goals become increasingly intertwined.
Edible Cinema is a creative initiative organised by unusual event specialist Polly Betton in partnership with experimental chefs Blanch & Shock, mixologists from Fentimans and Conker Spirit and Curzon. Turning a night at the cinema into a memorable event, Edible Cinema has been described by Vogue as 'gastronomic theatre' and 'the ultimate marriage of film and food' by Time Out. The event promises to harness the power of taste, smell and texture to enhance the cinematic experience. Each guest is supplied with a tray of numbered 'mystery boxes' containing a bite sized tasting menu corresponding to scenes in the film, and a carefully matched Conker Spirit and Fentimans cocktail. A signal during the screening indicates which box should be opened and enjoyed, and when.
Edible Cinema menus focus less on literal interpretations of food shown on screen, and more on environment, dialogue and the overall feeling. In the opening scene in Pan's Labyrinth, the characters walk through a pine forest, which was accompanied by the burnt woody aromas of pine-smoked popcorn, the 'crunch' mirroring the sound of feet on a pine needle floor. The films selected are visual feasts that lend themselves to a multi-sensory experience. Reluctant to reveal too many twists, the Edible Cinema team says that attendees can expect tongue-in-cheek horror and, of course, lotion.
