A long overdue showcase for the full range of Sienna Miller’s talents, American Woman is the story of Debra, a working class woman in Rust Belt America. Having become a mother at sixteen and then watched her daughter (Sky Ferreira) do exactly the same, she is distraught when she fails to return home from a night out. We follow Debra in her desperate search for the truth, across the weeks and years that follow.
As much as Miller’s mesmerising lead turn is the centre of the film, this is also the story of a community and how it copes with grief, buttressed by superb character work by Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Christina Hendricks. A full and complex picture of a life defined by a single event.
