Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney turns his incisive lens on modern day Russia, through the astonishing story of oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

A born wheeler and dealer, Khodorkovsky took advantage of the chaotic dissolution of the USSR, scooping up Russia’s oil supply for a fraction of its market value. Then Putin came to power, and set about dismantling the fledgling democracy by attacking the free press and private enterprise. Unable to resist challenging Putin, Khodorkovsky paid a steep price, spending ten years in a Siberian prison.

Via a treasure trove of surprising archive and colourful interviews, Gibney tells the story of Russia’s turbulent recent history through the rise and fall (and rise again) of Khordorkovsky, now exiled in London, and attacking Putin from afar.
