Extraordinary Stories

Extraordinary Stories

In this adventurous experiment in storytelling, secret identities, missing persons, lost treasures, exotic beasts and desperate criminals are only a few of the elements woven into a grand tapestry of mysteries.

Mariano Llinas' epic 4-hour ballad follows three men named X, H and Z, as they embark upon a trio of elaborate, far-fetched fables of destiny, identity and discovery. Argentinean filmmaker Llinas strives to mimic the myriad narrative techniques found in the writing of Jorge Luis Borges, weaving tales that have as much to do with the concept and meaning of storytelling as they do with the stories themselves.

Watching Extraordinary Stories can feel like reading an epic Russian novel or listening to a grand Italian opera, with its many moving parts and effervescent structure. This is a rare screening of one of the great, underseen works of 21st-century Latin cinema is not to be missed.

Extraordinary Stories will start at 10.30am sharp, without a trailer reel. There is a 30min interval at 12noon, between parts 1 & 2. The film ends at 3.10pm.

This screening is in collaboration with the National Film and Television School.
