Followed by Q&A with director Stere Gulea
The sequel to one of Romanian cinema's most lauded adaptations, The Moromete Family, On the Edge of Time tells the story of Ilie Moromete's family and focuses on his youngest son, Niculae. In this new moment, the entire universe of the village, where the most important thing is to own land and work it, changes upon the arrival of the Communist regime and collectivization.
The years 1945-1946 finds Ilie Moromete aging, but still active and relevant, but there are tensions between him and his second wife, Catrina. They reproach each other over the ownership of the land, over Ilie’s children from his first marriage, and over her jealousy.
Niculae is the only one of the children who went to school. He completed three high school years but stopped before the final year, for financial reasons. What he wants most in this world is to finish his studies, with the intention of becoming a journalist and writer, recording both the old and the new times through which he has lived.
