Good Posture + Q&A with director Dolly Wells and lead actor Emily Mortimer

Dolly Wells – having made an impression with a key supporting role in Can You Ever Forgive Me? – brings a wry eye for minute human interactions to her directorial debut.

Lillian (Grace Van Patten) is unceremoniously dumped on arrival in New York and is forced to move into the home of reclusive novelist Julia (Emily Mortimer). Their frosty relationship becomes the basis for Lillian to do some much needed growing up.

Grace Van Patten (last seen in The Meyerowitz Stories) sets herself as one to watch with a winningly unpleasant take on coming of age malaise.

Slotting aside the other New York comedies of intellectuals in an ethical mess, this is well-observed and sharply written pleasure.
