BAFTA Lecture Series: Pedro Almodóvar

BAFTA Lecture Series: Pedro Almodóvar

Taking place at Curzon cinemas in Mayfair and Soho, 2019 is the tenth year of BAFTAs annual series. The Screenwriters' Lecture Series exists to celebrate screenwriters’ authorial contribution to film and gives esteemed writers a platform to share highlights and insights from their careers with an audience of film-lovers and their peers.

Four-time BAFTA winner Pedro Almodóvar is not just one of Spain's finest filmmakers but a beautiful chronicler of Spain's transition from military dictatorship to the wild democracy of La Movida to the present day.

Having written all twenty-one of his features to date (including 2019's highly autobiographical Pain & Glory), Almodóvar has distinguished himself as someone willing to tackle radical stories in non-judgemental, compelling forms.

From melodrama to high comedy by way of sober character drama, this promises to be an intimate conversation with the writer-director of All About My Mother, Talk to Her and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

Created by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jeremy Brock, the series is supported by JJ Charitable Trust.
