There are films loved by the whole family, and then there's Mary Poppins. Luckily, Disney seem to have produced a successor to the 1964 original that is practically perfect in every way.
Set in London in 1935, twenty five years after the first film, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) are once again in need of the prim disruption of a certain umbrella-borne nanny.
Emily Blunt is a worthy successor to Julie Andrews, and the rest of the cast is a box of delights, including Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, and Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke bringing their special sparkle.
Expect timeless songs, dancing penguins, and for this beautifully produced film to go down as easily as a spoonful of sugar.
